PMP시험 신청 방법 총정리(2/3)-PMP 시험 신청

PMP(Project Management Professional) 시험 신청을 처음 하시는 분들을 위해서 지난 포스팅(PMI등록 방법)에 이어, 이번에는 PMP 신청 시 반드시 필요한 3가지(Education/Experience/Exam Details) 입력 절차를 중심으로 다음과 같이 정리해 보도록 하겠습니다.

PMP 시험 신청 메뉴

PMP 시험 신청은 PMI사이트에서 신청이 가능한데 하기와 같이 PMI의 “Certification”메뉴의 하단에 있는 “Project Management Professional(PMP)”를 선택한 후에 화면의 “Apply now” 버튼을 선택하시면 상세 정보 입력 화면으로 이동합니다.(물론 로그인은 필수입니다!)

개인 상세 정보는 크게 3가지 Step(Education/Experience/Exam Details) 입력으로 나누어지는데 입력 방법은 아래와 같습니다.

PMP 신청 ‘Education’ 입력

상세 정보 입력 화면 중 먼저 “Education” 입력은 다음과 같이 [Academic Education] 입력과 [Professional Education] 입력의 두 가지 타입으로 나누어지면 상세 내용은 다음과 같습니다.

Academic Education

Academic Education부분인데 PMP 시험은 고졸 이상의 학력과 35시간 관련 교육 이수자 대상으로 시험을 응시할 수가 있고 입력 화면은 다음과 같이 출신 학교 정보 및 전공을 입력하고 “Save Education”을 선택하시면 됩니다. (다만 고졸의 경우 5년 프로젝트 관련 경험 요구 된다고 함)

Professional Education

Professional Education에는 PMP시험 응시에 필요한 PMP관련 35시간 교육을 수료한 기관과 과정 정보를 기입하는 곳입니다.

다만 기본 35시간의 교육 시간 충족을 요청하고 있지만 실제로 저의 경험상으로는 교육 진행 중(35시간 미달성 상태)에도 35시간으로 입력해서 다음 단계로 넘어간 것을 보면 비교적 형식적인 절차로 보입니다.

PMP 신청 ‘Experience’ 입력

Education을 입력하셨다면 다음으로 ‘Experience’을 입력해야 하는데 이곳에는 자신이 프로젝트와 관련되었던 경험(프로젝트명, 조직, 규모 등등)들을 간단하게 선택합니다.

그다음에는 본인이 수행했던 Project 경험을 요약하여 [Project Description]을 작성을 한 후에 “Save Experience”를 선택하시면 됩니다.

그런데 이 “Project Description”은 영문으로 작성되어야 하는데 처음 작성하시는 분들은 제법 당황하실 수가 있습니다만 이런 상황에서는 “구글 Gemini”나 “Chat GPT”와 같은 AI를 활용해서 진행하시면 간단하게 진행하실수 있습니다.

참고로 저의 경우에는 아래와 같은 질문 형태로 “Project Description”정보를 얻을 수가 있었습니다.

①아래의 질문으로 예시문 획득
→”PMP 자격을 획득하기 위해서 회원가입을 하려고 하는데 Project description을 작성해야 해. 나는 자동차 부품회사에서 project manager로 3년 이상 일해 왔어. 내장 부품, 외장 부품 모두 일한 경험이 있지. 이 경우 PMP 사이트 등록용으로 Project description 예시문을 작성해 줄래”②예시문을 받은후에 다음 질문 추가

AI로 받은 결과문을 기반으로 본인의 경험 부분을 수정해 주신 후에 “Project Description”을 작성 후 다음 단계로 진행해주면 되는데 참고로 제가 사용한 AI결과는 다음과 같습니다.

Stakeholder management: Stakeholder analysis and management planning, and induce stakeholder engagement
Team management and motivation: While leading a 10-person team, we applied PMBOK’s team development phase to improve and motivate teamwork.
Stakeholder management: actively communicating with stakeholders such as customers and partners, established and implemented PMBOK’s stakeholder engagement plan.
Risk management: We have established and implemented PMBOK’s risk response plan by identifying and analyzing potential risks such as technical issues and schedule delays.
Quality control: It complies with ISO 26262 standard and guarantees the quality of the product by applying PMBOK’s quality control process.

PMP 신청 ‘Exam Details’ 입력

위에서 Education과 Experience를 입력하셨다면 마지막으로 “Exam Details”를 입력하고 “Save Name”을 선택하면 됩니다.

“Exam Details”에서 입력해야 되는 내용은 주로 주로 시험을 실시한 국가 및 개인정보(이름/전화번호/주소 등)를 입력하면 되는데 합격자 분들의 피드백을 들어보면 영문 이름 입력은 가능하면 여권에 표기된 대로 입력하는 것을 추천한다고 합니다.

물론 작성 후에도 변경은 가능하지만 “Name on Certificate”에 작성한 정보는 직접 편집이 안되고 고객센터를 통해서만 변경이 가능했습니다.

PMP 신청 완료 후 절차

위에서 “Education/Experience/Exam Details를 작성하고 제출하면 다음과 같이 완료 메시지가 표시됩니다.

PMP는 시험을 신청했다고 해서 바로 신청완료가 되는 것이 아닙니다.

본인이 제출한 PMP Application정보를 PMI기관에서 검토한 후에 다음 단계(결제 및 시험 장소/일정 설정)로 진행이 가능합니다.

보통은 신청 후에 3~5일 정도는 소요되므로 결과를 기다리신 후에 문제가 승인을 받으면 다음 단계를 진행하시면 되는데 개인적은 경험으로는 저도 “Project Description”에 프로젝트 경험 정보가 부족하다는 하기와 같은 피드백으로 1차 시도는 Fail을 받았습니다.
